Services We Provide
- Baby Book Dedication
- The library dedicates a new picture book to newborn German Township residents. A bookplate is placed in the front of the selected book with the child's name, birth date, and parent's names. Families are notified of the selection and given an opportunity to be the first to check out the book. The book is then placed in regular circulation for all to enjoy. You can submit a dedication request online.
- Book Renewal
- Renewable items may be renewed online by logging in to your account. For those without Internet access, phone renewal is available by calling 574-546-2849.
- Copy Machine
- There is a photocopier for public use in the library. Copies are 10 cents per page for black-and-white or 25 cents for color. Paper sizes include 8 1/2 x 11, 8 1/2 x 14 and 11 x 17. The copy machine is located in the Adult Department.
- Display Cases
- The display cases in the library's foyer and children's room are available for display of materials or artifacts from the library collections or objects owned by members of the community. Contact a library employee if you have a collection you would like to display in a locked case.
- DNR State Parks Pass
- We have a DNR Parks Pass available for patrons to check out. This pass will provide access to our 32 state parks and also the state forest recreation areas where entrance fees are charged. Loan period is one week, with no renewals. Late fee is $1 per day. Replacement fee is $50 if lost.
- Drop Boxes
- Library materials may be returned in the drop boxes. An audiovisual drop for CDs and DVDs is located to the right of the Jackson Street entrance. A book drop for books, magazines and kits is located to the left of the Jackson Street entrance.
- Fax Machine
- The library has a fax machine for public use. It is located in the office area so staff must send documents for you. All incoming faxes are $1.00 per page. Outgoing faxes going to locations within the United States are $1.00 per page. Faxes going outside the United States are $2.00 per page.
- Headphones
- The adult and children's departments both have headphones available for public use in the Library. The headphones may be used with the public computers, and/or patrons' own devices.
- Homebound Delivery Service
- Staff members provide delivery service for homebound residents or residents of health care facilities who lack transportation or who are temporarily or permanently confined due to illness or disability. All library materials, except videos, can be delivered through this service. Delivery is every two weeks. You may request titles or they can be selected for you.
- Interlibrary Loan
- With the Bremen Public Library's interlibrary loan service you can access materials from other libraries throughout Indiana and the rest of the country. The requested items can be delivered and you can check them out as you would any other title in our collection. You must hold a valid Bremen Public Library card in order to take advantage of this service. Interlibrary loan is a primary service that supports the mission of the library by providing enhanced access to library materials and information. The purpose of interlibrary loan is to obtain materials not available in the library and to provide materials from our collection to other libraries. - Library Tours
- Our Children's Department welcomes class visits and tours.
- Meeting Rooms
- The meeting rooms are available free of charge to German Township groups and organizations whose purpose is non-commercial, non-partisan and/or non-profit. See our Meeting Room Policy page for details.
- Microfilm Reader
- The library has available for use a microfilm reader/printer. This is used mainly to look at The Bremen Enquirer, our local newspaper. The Bremen Enquirer is used for research, genealogy and just for fun. Printed copies can be made for 10 cents a page.Instructions for using the microfilm reader/printer.
- Mobile App
- Our Bremen Mobile App, available for both Android and iOS devices, is a free download available from the App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android. Search for Bremen Public Library. The app allows you to search our catalog for materials, place holds, renew materials, see new arrivals and bestsellers, and check our hours.
- Mobile Printing
- The library offers wireless printing from your mobile device. See our Mobile Printing page for details.
- Public Scanner
- The library has a scanner available for patron use. This scanner can scan documents up to 8.5" X 11.7". Transparencies and negatives can also be scanned. If you wish to scan transparencies and/or negatives and are not familiar with the equipment, you should schedule an appointment for a staff member to assist you.
- Reciprocal Borrowing
- We have joined over 150 Indiana public libraries in a statewide reciprocal borrowing program that allows patrons from one library system to check out materials from another library system. With your BPL card in good standing, you can visit other member libraries and check out books with no additional cost. See details on reciprocal borrowing.
- Text Alerts
- These alerts will be notifications of items that are overdue or for holds that are ready for pickup at our library. Please note that notifications regarding digital items are sent to the email address on record with the digital provider. Sign up for Text Alerts.
- Wi-Fi
- Free wireless (WiFi) Internet access is available at the library for patrons who bring their own laptops or mobile devices. The high-speed wireless network can be accessed during regular library hours. Patrons will be expected to follow the same policies and rules set for use of the library computers.
