Bremen Newspaper Microfilms
The Bremen paper has always been a weekly publication. Our microfilm rolls date from April 17, 1884 to December 2013, with some exceptions due to missing papers. In addition to microfilm, we have print copies from 2003 to current.
Indiana residents can now search and view vintage copies (1885-1964) of The Bremen Enquirer on-line through INSPIRE at no charge. To access these papers follow these instructions. In 2019, this content will become available on the Hoosier State Chronicles site which will make it free to the whole world.
Below is a complete inventory of our microfilm collection. Except where indicated otherwise, all films are of The Bremen Enquirer. The April 17, 1884 issue of The Bremen Banner is labeled "Vol.III, #39", which indicates that Vol I of the Banner may have been printed in 1882 . We have no issues earlier than April 17, 1884. An article in The October 30, 1886 issue of The Bremen Enquirer referenced The Bremen Gazette of May 19, 1875. We do not have any issues of the Gazette.
A column title "25 Years Ago" was started in the May 30, 1912 paper. During 1916, the column was retitled "24 Years Ago". In 1917, it ran as "23 Years Ago". The last few months of 1917, there was no column featuring excerpts from older papers. In 1918, the column was started again as "20 Years Ago".
Except where indicated, these films have been indexed for deaths and the obituary database entries are completed.
