Death Year (Range) Years are optional. Enter as four-digits.

• Search by Given Name: To search by given names, enter at least three characters in the Given Name box. Given names include first, middle, and nick names. The last name is optional when searching by Given Name.
• Search by Last Name: To search by the last name, enter at least three characters in the Last Name box. The default search, with no option selected, returns all records where the last name includes your entry in the Last Name box. For example, a search for hawk will return both Hawkins and VanSkyHawk. The first name is optional when searching by Last Name. The Last Name refers to the last name at the time of death. Use the Search Other Names option to search maiden and previous married names.
• Sounds Like: Select 'Sounds Like' to include similar sounding Last Names. For example, a 'Sounds Like' search for Borkholder, will include Burkholder, as well as Burkhalter and Bruegel. Remember that names may have changed over time or may have been mispelled in the original documents. A 'Sounds Like' search requires an entry of at least three characters in the Last Name box. Given name is optional when the Sounds Like option is selected.
• Search Other Names: The 'Search Other Names' option searches maiden names and other last names that a person may have had prior to death. An Other Names search requires an entry of at least three characters in the Last Name box. Given name is optional when the Search Other Names option is selected. Not all records have other last names.
• Death Year (Range): You may narrow your search results by entering a range of years to search. Enter 4 digit years only. If you enter only 1 year (From or To), the search will only include that specific year. For records that do not have a date of death, the date of the source is used. Entry of a death range is optional. If you limit the death range to a single year you are not required to enter a given or last name.
